Summary

To assess the status of hunger and homelessness in America’s cities during 2004, The U.S. Conference of Mayors surveyed 27 major cities whose mayors were members of its Task Force on Hunger and Homelessness. The survey sought information and estimates from each city on 1) the demand for emergency food assistance and emergency shelter and the capacity of local agencies to meet that demand; 2) the causes of hunger and homelessness and the demographics of the populations experiencing these problems; 3) exemplary programs or efforts in the cities to respond to hunger and homelessness; 4) the availability of affordable housing for low income people; and 5) the outlook for the future and the impact of the economy on hunger and homelessness.

Among the findings of the 27-city survey:

HUNGER
Officials in the survey cities estimate that during the past year requests for emergency food assistance increased by an average of 14 percent, with 96 percent of the cities registering an increase. Requests for food assistance by families with children increased by an average of 13 percent. Requests for emergency food assistance by elderly persons increased by an average of 12 percent during the last year, with 72 percent of the cities reporting an increase.

On average, 20 percent of the requests for emergency food assistance are estimated to have gone unmet during the last year. For families alone, 17 percent of the requests for assistance are estimated to have gone unmet. In 48 percent of the cities, emergency food assistance facilities may have to turn away people in need due to lack of resources.

Fifty-six percent of the people requesting emergency food assistance were members of families – children and their parents. Thirty-four percent of the adults requesting food assistance were employed.

The overall level of resources available to emergency food assistance facilities increased by 18 percent during the last year in the cities registering an increase. Forty-four percent of the survey cities reported that emergency food assistance facilities are able to provide an adequate quantity of food. Sixty-seven percent of the cities’ emergency food assistance facilities have had to decrease the number of bags of food provided and/or the number of times people can receive food. Of these cities, 63 percent have had to increase the limit of food provided. Eighty-one percent of the survey cities reported that the food provided is nutritionally balanced.

In 100 percent of the cities, families and individuals relied on emergency food assistance facilities both in emergencies and as a steady source of food over long periods of time.

Unemployment and other employment-related problems lead the list of causes of hunger identified by the city officials. Other causes cited, in order of frequency, include lowpaying jobs, high housing costs, poverty or lack of income, medical or health costs, substance abuse, high utility costs, mental health problems, homelessness, reduced public benefits and high childcare costs.

HOMELESSNESS
During the past year, requests for emergency shelter increased in the survey cities by an average of 6 percent, with 70 percent of the cities registering an increase. Requests for shelter by homeless families alone increased by 7 percent, with 78 percent of the cities reporting an increase.

An average of 23 percent of the requests for emergency shelter by homeless people overall and 32 percent of the requests by homeless families alone are estimated to have gone unmet during the last year. In 81 percent of the cities, emergency shelters may have to turn away homeless families due to lack of resources; in 81 percent they may also have to turn away other homeless people.

People remain homeless an average of eight months in the survey cities. Forty-six percent of the cities said that the length of time people were homeless increased during the last year.

Lack of affordable housing leads the list of causes of homelessness identified by the city officials. Other causes cited, in order of frequency, include mental illness and the lack of needed services, substance abuse and the lack of needed services, low-paying jobs, unemployment, domestic violence, poverty, and prisoner re-entry.

Officials estimate that, on average, single men comprise of 41 percent of the homeless population, families with children-40 percent, single women-14 percent and unaccompanied youth- five percent. The homeless population is estimated to be 49 percent African-American, 35 percent white, 13 percent Hispanic, two percent Native American and one percent Asian. An average of 23 percent of homeless people in the cities are considered mentally ill; 30 percent are substance abusers; 17 percent are employed; and 10 percent are veterans.

In 56 percent of the cities, families may have to break up in order to be sheltered. In 52 percent of the cities families may have to spend their daytime hours outside of the shelter they use at night.

HOUSING
Requests for assisted housing by low- income families and individuals increased in 68 percent of the cities during the last year. Thirty-two percent of eligible low-income households are currently served by assisted housing programs. City officials estimate that low- income households spend an average of 45 percent of their income on housing.

Applicants must wait an average of 20 months for public housing in the survey cities. The wait for Section 8 certificates is 30 months, and for Section 8 Vouchers it’s 35 months. Fifty- nine percent of the cities have stopped accepting applications for at least one assisted housing program due to the excessive length of the waiting list.

THE OUTLOOK
Officials in 88 percent of the responding cities expect requests for emergency food assistance to increase during 2005. Eighty- four percent expect that requests for emergency food assistance by families with children will increase during 2005. Officials in 88 percent of the cities expect that requests for emergency shelter will increase next year. Seventy-eight percent expect that requests by homeless families will increase.

Even with an improving economy, city officials believe that economic conditions will continue to have a negative impact on the problem of hunger and homelessness.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, home to a longstanding city-reaching movement, and a delightful place to visit in the spring!

When?

The CIR will begin @ 1:30 Monday, April 3rd and conclude at noon Wednesday, April 5 (no lunch). Attendees of any former CIR are welcome to join us for pre-CIR fellowship and prayer Sunday night, April 2 @ 7:30 and Monday 9 AM to noon.

Geneva: Pastoral Care & Schools

Greetings to all of you clergy,

Yesterday the 19 at Methodist church we had the privilege to meet Elene Haas the new director of pastoral care at Geneva Provina Care Center. She is looking for ministers to see the patients there and hold services as well as minister one on one.

Pastor Bill < from Methodist > shared with us the wonderful opportunity to be a blessing at the Geneva Schools and will be getting us more information about the need the for faith based help in the district. We will get you information as it comes he is on the committee and it is a wonderful idea to get involved with our young folks in Geneva..

I was voted in as our President and Karen as the secretary we have a desire to see you all come and be a part of the Association. Do you have any ideas how we can improve our place in our community, and how about schedules? Can we set dates to get together? Todd Burnett Delnor Chaplain will be bringing someone in Nov from the Wellness center looking for pastoral care there.

Another note ... we'd like to start a newsletter for the Geneva Ministry "team" with NOV being the starting date. We will be looking for information as to what's new and happening in your ministries or possibly a word form a local pastor perhaps like a "pastor to pastor" subject ?? Perhaps an outreach available or needs social etc...

National Conference Call - Reaching Our Communities

For the first time in many months, the usual "third Thursday" cityreaching conference call will not be held. Jarvis Ward will be in W. Palm Beach, and Glenn Barth is working with hurricane Katrina disaster response in Mississippi. I have the privilege of traveling to many cities with a couple of very talented Christian recording artists to do this one-evening event for your teens. The Lord has really blessed these events, and by the grace of God, we are able to help each teenager who attends sign a “Purity Covenant” and learn what it means to be truly sexually pure, and to dedicate themselves and their morals to their future spouse and to the Lord of their life.

Phil, thanks for this article about the CMA in Great Britain. God is at work all over in the biker community!

This Sunday I'll not be at our usual worship gathering, but instead I'll be here http://www.abate-il> .org/Dukane/toyrun-fullpage.jpg .

Five years ago the Lord spoke pretty clearly to me about incarnational ministry - that as a Christian I needed to be building relationships with those who are far from God. So I joined the local (DuKane) chapter of ABATE, which is a national motorcyclist right organizations. Mostly Harley-type guys and gals. I've been at most of the monthly meetings at the St. Charles VFW since - and the Lord has provided many ministry opportunities. Last Saturday I did the blessing at the Braidwood Toy Run - it was a blast telling about 200 bikers about Jesus' love and forgiveness, and then praying for 'em all - that God would work in their lives.

This Sunday there will probably be about 700 - 1000 bikes. No public bike blessing, but a bunch of born-again bikers will be serving to help make the event happen. Businesses sponsor kegs of beer - but the Warehouse Church sponsors port-a-potties. One time at a chapter meeting they were thanking the sponsors, they mentioned that we paid for a couple port-a-potties, and someone from the back of the room shouted "hey, that's some really holy sh&#!" Pretty funny, and they know that believers in Jesus care about them.

Wow, I didn't plan on writing a book here... but if you would keep us in prayer for this Sunday, that the Lord will pro> vide many opportunities to show His love, and for conversations about Him. Thanks Phil!

Geneva: Pastors & Ministers Connecting

The Geneva Ministerial Association will be meeting at the Methodist church at 211Hamiliton street on Oct 19th Wednesday at 12 noon till 1 PM the hosting church will be offering desert and coffee

The topic this months will be electing new officers to the association

In recent past the association has been involved with National day of Prayer and 9-11 Remembrances Services. The association also has been involved in city wide events and cooperate services which have included Geneva Citywide Thanksgiving services ground breaking ceremonies and local food pantries. The association has also been involved in establishing an availability statement to assist the city in emergencies and work as a team effort across denominational lines to help when in need. All Geneva clergy and lay ministers are invited to attend.

Pray CHICAGO - Prayer Point for a Strategic Confernece

Mission America Coalition meets Octboer 11-13 at The Wyndham Hotel O'Hare, 6810 Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Illinois. Leaders from denominations, ministry organizations and networks, as well as city transofrmation agents will gather to discuss how the whole Church can collaborate to take the whole Gospel to the whole city and naiton and planet.

How To Pray ~

We are ministering by ushering in the Lord's Presence and praying that His Will be done and His Kingdom comes through the men and women of God meeting at the Mission America Annual Meeting. We want to permeate the atmosphere in prayer and praise. I'm impressed to say that 'prayer & praise' are the amniotic fluid that nurtures and protects the things God is birthing on the earth, and in His Kingdom.

Please begin to pray (I know many of you have started already) for:
•The MAC Annual Meeting Logistics (Planning, Lodgings, Transportation, Equipment, Communications, Staffing & Materials) - I've been asking for the spirit of Peace to overtake the proceedings. Peace is Shalom in Hebrew; one meaning of that is 'nothing missing, nothing broken.' The Lord is not the author of confusion, but He is the Prince of Peace. Let Him Reign!
•"E Pluribus Unum" What? This latin phrase is on our money. The Lord woke me up with this the last time I attended a One Great City & Mission America meeting in Chicago several years ago. You know it means "Out of many One." I began to pray this over Chicago and in settings where believers from various denominations, worship streams and cultures come together. Pray that many become one in the Prayer Room and in the various meetings. We are one under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Let's pray for that reality.
•"His Kingdom Come, His Will Be Done" - Let's pray that God Kingdom comes to the various meetings and sessions. Let's pray that His Righteousness, Peace & Joy has free reign. Let's pray that His will be done. I'm thanking Him now that the Mind of Christ is in operation at every gathering, for His glory.
His Anointing - Let's pray that God's anointing falls on every participants. Anointed Speakers & Facilitators, speak under the power of God! Anointed committee members flow in the gift of administration! Anointed volunteers flow in the gift of Helps! Anointed Pray-ers, Pray! (You get my drift, right? Smile). We're praying that God's people are blessed in what they set their hands to.

New Orleans Disaster Relief Outreach: This is the second relief team we are sending down. Please keep this team covered in prayer. They leave Oct. 17th and return on the 24th. Our report from our first team to Gulfport last month was amazing. They were able to touch many lives and ending up personally meeting President Bush and one of our young adults was able to give Him a serious prophetic word. It was wild!

WEEK OF 24/7 PRAYER/WORSHIP 10/19-10/25--we are calling the city to a solid week of 24/7 encounter here in the prayer room from Wed. Oct.19th through Tuesday Oct. 25th. The events following Katrina have made us all more aware of the large numbers of poor that live in the United States, the richest country in the world. This Saturday, Tim Hoekstra will bring an article from the Chicago Sun Times for us to discuss.

Is Your City Ready?

Christians should be at forefront of preparedness and response

(CEN, Sept. 28) PHOENIX, Ariz. – As residents slowly return to the communities hardest hit by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and towns hundreds of miles away and all points in between adjust to the influx of evacuees created by the storms, Christian Emergency Network (CEN) Founder and CEO Mary Marr said these circumstances point to the importance of each community being responsibly prepared for calamities, and for Christians to have individual, church, denominational, and congregational preparedness plans, as well as being primed in all ways to demonstrate calm and effective leadership in times of crisis.

Marr explained, “As churches in large cities in the U.S. responded to recent devastation, many for the first time without prior preparation, it causes each church and each Christian within our own cities to ask some strategic questions made necessary by the realization in the past month that civil authorities may not be fully able to meet the immediate needs of citizens.”

Marr added, “CEN prayerfully collaborated yesterday with Christian, municipal, state, denominational, congregational, church and media leaders to provide resources that are vital to a church and family’s survival. When each church and each individual Christian family is prepared to lead the way by first preparing for their own needs will they be positioned to help assist their community with a caring response that earns them the right to share the Gospel.”

Marr noted basic questions to consider now should a disaster strike your city include:

Marr explained, “As CEN partners move forward during the next weeks and months, we will be exploring these key and added questions of preparedness for various agencies, organizations and entities responsible for emergency rescue and response. For comprehensive reviews of these questions, check the website regularly for resources to help you deal with these critical issues.”

Marr reminded Christian city and denominational leaders, including media, that as they themselves respond and choose how to prepare others to respond, they should so do according to the biblical precepts of prayer-care-share, the message and response adopted by CEN. Many national leaders thanked CEN for such timely assistance being provided them in their hour of need. Collaborative conference calls to prepare the greater Christian church city by city, church by church will continue.

Said Marr, “With the overwhelming presenting needs, we must constantly humble ourselves before God to ask for discernment in how to respond in prayer include:

Pray for the president and other national and local government officials as they seek to learn how to be better prepared in the future.
Pray for New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Eddie Compass resigned from his position on Tuesday. Pray for a replacement of God’s choosing.
Pray for businesses to be able to open despite damage from the storms and looting.
Pray for utility workers as they seek to restore power to cities all across the Gulf Coast, and inland areas affected by the storms.
Pray for protection from accident and disease for those who are returning to homes and businesses in affected areas.
Pray that as cities are rebuilt, that the church would be there to provide a spiritual foundation for the “new cities” as they rise from the devastation.
Pray for continued need for clothes, housing, jobs and other material needs by those trying to resettle in other cities across the country
Pray for a cooperative plan for disaster preparedness between churches in your city and civil officials.
Pray that your church would take seriously the need to have preparation plans in place.
Pray that Christians will take personal responsibility for their own and others preparedness needs for Kingdom expansion.

Care
The work of the Salvation Army in Houston is a sterling example of how to provide care, said Marr. The Salvation Army has opened two shelters in the north Houston area that are currently housing more than 450 Houstonians who were unable to evacuate the city. At the shelters, the temporary residents are provided with cots to sleep on, hot meals and water as well as a sense of security.

CEN Care tip for those sheltering evacuees: consider adopting a “pet evacuee” for those you are sheltering to transition from the loss of their own pet.

Meanwhile, Marr points to the outlook of Convoy of Hope worker Dave Auterson as an example of the long-term view a Christian must have to prepare to properly share the Gospel. Auterson said, “People are starting to ask ‘Where do we begin?’ and ‘How will we ever come back from this?’ I have to admit that I too have thought those things – until tonight when driving back to Baton Rouge; it struck me that the church has ALWAYS faced huge need and daunting tasks. And, because of that, we already know where and how we will do our work.”

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (ANS) -- It's doors haven't closed even once since September 15, 1877 -- over 46,750 consecutive days-- a period spanning last 25 presidential administrations. (Pictured: Pacific Garden Mission facilities prior to major additions).

In that time the Pacific Garden Mission has cared for homeless people of all races, creeds, and national origin on a non-discriminatory basis from its first day.

No one is ever turned away. Its doors are open day and night, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have been open non-stop since September 15, 1877, an unbroken string of over 46,750 consecutive days, a period spanning the terms of 25 US presidents from Rutherford B. Hayes to George W. Bush.

Now, as it marks its 128th Anniversary, the Pacific Garden Mission has opened its doors to a number of homeless victims of Hurricane Katrina at its 646 S. State Street location in Chicago.

"So far, we are caring for about eight men from Louisiana and Mississippi, and we expect the number to increase as more homeless arrive in Chicago," according to Phil Kwiatkowski, Director of Ministry Services.

David McCarrell, Pacific Garden Mission’s Director, states, "It is noteworthy that we are receiving needy people from far outside of Chicago as we mark our 128th anniversary and are planning a new, larger facility.

"Hurricane victims have much in common with Chicago's homeless…though their condition was caused by a single weather-related event, those we care for every day are homeless due to any number of circumstances including job loss, illness, domestic violence, and lack of affordable housing. Not all of them are unemployed, in fact many have attended high school and college. Each one is our neighbor and our mission is to care for them all."

Mr. McCarrell continued: "When we move to our brand new state-of-the-art facility at 14th and Canal Streets in 2007, we will increase our capacity and have all our services under one roof. Currently, women and children are cared for at a separate facility on Grand Avenue. (Pictured Pacific Garden Mission new facilities).

"People are surprised to hear that in the past year we served 803,000 meals [2200 each day] and provided 227,760 shelter days [624 each day]. We also distribute tons of clothing each year. In any given month, the mission distributes approximately 51,000 items of clothing and provides free medical and dental care to approximately 500 people.

"To many, we are a springboard, a place where they can get back on their feet. We provide programs for rehabilitation, one-on-one counseling, GED and other educational assistance, computer courses, and life skills training courses which help them create a resume, balance a checkbook, set goals, and manage their lives. All of this fits right in with Mayor Daley’s plan to end homelessness in Chicago."

McCarrell stressed: "We are not a soup kitchen, but a comprehensive care facility which addresses physical, spiritual and emotional needs. Chicago has benefited greatly from such comprehensive care…all provided by the generosity of the private sector."

He added: "There are some exciting things on the horizon as we develop plans for our new building. A Building Fund has been established and, in the coming months, Chicago will see some exciting opportunities for businesses, schools, churches and individuals to get involved."

Hurricane Katrina has brought much despair, death and darkness. As a church body, we have the ability to be and bring “God’s light” to our nation. Many in the nearby areas are very active in providing physical and financial support at this time. Those of us who are watching from afar can also help by doing our highest civil duty as Christians – pray!! We have the responsibility and need to carry the burdens of our brothers and sisters to the Lord through intercession. EM Bounds puts it this way; “The character and energy of God’s movement lie in prayer. Victory comes at the end of praying!!”

President Bush is calling for a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for those directly affected by Katrina on Friday, September 16th. This provides the body of Christ with a chance for its greatest hour – to take the lead in uniting our nation in prayer and letting our “light shine before men.”

To help you impact your communities, the National Prayer Committee and the National Day of Prayer Task Force (NDP), led by Mrs. Shirley Dobson, is calling upon our nation’s pastors, prayer leaders and volunteers to host prayer observances which will call our country to its knees. As people of prayer encourage churches, state capitols, city halls, workplaces, ministries and groups of believers to open doors and gather on Friday, September 16th as our nation comes together corporately to pray, knowing God Almighty wants Americans to come with our needs.

The major agencies (FEMA, and others) have not yet begun to work in that area and most of the churches have suffered severe damage. So far, there is almost no where for volunteers to stay, although they desperately need them – I promised her I would begin working on that with San Diego churches and others, and that I would do my best to sent people to her and get them tents and other shelters, 100 tables, etc.. "10 Keys for Unlocking the Bible" Studies THIS FALL

Dear past (or prospective) "10 Keys" Leader,

I am writing to encourage you to consider leading a "10 Keys for Unlocking the Bible" study this fall (mid-September to mid-November). I am planning to do one, and I would like to share a few ideas that may encourage you to do the same.

Please note: THIS IS IN ADDITION TO OUR "10 KEYS" OUTREACH which will be launched for January 2006.

Although my own main reason for attempting to lead a group this fall is that I may not be able to do one in January-March or April, you may have another reason for finding that the Sept.-Nov. dates work out for you.

Let me tell you what I am planning and have begun doing to not only prepare for another group, but also to follow up with the people who attended a group with me earlier this year.

1. Contact (probably by telephone) each person who attended my „10 Keys‰ study in Jan.:
a. Encourage them to continue growing in their faith, specifically by joining another Bible study this fall. If they are not already planning to attend a Bible study, tell them about the „Adult Bible Studies & Small Groups‰ which AHEFC sponsors (see the green brochure at the Information Desks at church). I will get a copy to them for details about each study, and who to contact to register.
b. Ask them if they would like to host a „10 Keys‰ study in their home, or if they know of any friends who might like to attend a study in my (Lenore‚s) home this fall. Specifically ask if they can think of people to invite who might „like to get an overview of the Bible in 10 stimulating sessions." They should be encouraged to tell their friends that this is a non-threatening video series, and a non-denominational study of the Bible, and no one is expected to have answers to questions. Participating in the discussion is optional˜they may wish to sit back and listen.

Power from on High II: Growing in the Prophetic
Time: Tuesdays, 7:00-9:00pm
Instructor: Sylvia Saucedo
Location: FSOM Classroom, Furnace Annex
Description: This class is a continuation of the first class with a focus on growing in the prophetic and developing a prophetic lifestyle. Through the study and practice of advanced prophetic principles, the student will learn how to develop a prophetic lifestyle, identify their prophetic calling, and gain the tools needed to function at a level of greater depth in prophetic ministry.

All courses are $100, $50 to Staff.

Registration has begun, and the cutoff occurs after the course's first meeting, but please register as early as possible. "Revelation Workshop" with Tom Grossman weekend of September 16/17th. Starts 7:30pm Friday evening.

Workshop on Saturday beginning at 9:30am-5pm with a lunch break. The Saturday workshop is $20 in advance or $25 at the door. This weekend will unlock mysteries concerning the book of Revelation and the end of the age. Tom is one of the best teachers on the book of Revelation that we know of! More info. coming. Thanks to all who participated in the LIFE Prayer Seige at the abortion clinic by the Furnace. It was amazing. There was wonderful fruit from our prayer meetings there. One man pulled over in tears and shared with one of the leaders how his ex-girlfriend had aborted their baby there five years ago while he was incarcerated and he had never recovered from the guilt of losing his baby. He still carries around the ultrasound with him. He ended up giving his heart to Jesus this past week with one of the team members. Thank you, Jesus. We are going to be starting a Bound4Life Chicago chapter and regularly doing prayer seiges at various abortion clinics and City Hall. We'll be giving more info. on how people can get involved with this. Traveling teams: Please pray for the following teams that are out this month.

The 2005 Leadership Summit: Pray for 52,000 Pastors

Dear Enews Friends,

In 45 hours we will be kicking off The 2005 Leadership Summit . As of now there are over 52,000 pastors and leaders registered. Yep, you read that right, 52,000 people (not to mention the thousands of volunteers as well)! Emanating from the stage of our new auditorium and sent by satellite to 110 sites across North America, one of the finest faculties we have ever assembled will be challenging leaders to lead at the highest possible level. I said to Lynne recently, "pinch me." She said, "why on earth would I do that?" I then explained to her that in my wildest dreams I could have never imagined that 10 years ago when we held our first Summit it would become what it is today. Back in 1995 my biggest worry was whether or not anybody would come to a two and a half day event in the middle of August for a conference that focused exclusively on leadership. What a difference a decade can make! Only God could have orchestrated this amazing turn of events.

This year, because of the completion of our new facility, we saved 1500 spaces for leaders from Willow Creek and every one of those seats has been filled. I can't tell you how much that fires me up! Finally our own church staff and volunteers will be able to benefit from the impact of this event. We will see the payoff of this for years to come.

The bottom line reason for this communiqué is to ask all of you to pray for the Summit. And here are the specifics:

Please pray that all of the faculty will arrive safely and remain healthy so that they can make their optimal contribution. Pray that each one of them will be fully attuned to the working of the Holy Spirit so that each session will have the unmistakable mark of God on it. Please pray for the worship teams, the dancers and the drama teams as they make their creative contributions. Pray that there will be transcendent moments when everyone knows that God is moving in the hearts of leaders.

I would also ask you to pray for the technical side of this very complicated event. Imagine the complexity of beaming a signal to 110 sites across North America. Last year 2 sites had to be abandoned because of hurricanes. Many of us have been praying for months that not a single site would be adversely affected by weather issues.

Finally, please pray for those 52,000 people who have invested time and resources to sign up for this year's Summit. Pray that each person will be open to the work of God in their lives, and that God would whisper to them exactly what they need to hear to provide the kind of leadership that the church of Jesus Christ deserves.

I don't need to remind any of you of the power of prayer. You have all seen God work when you have fallen on your knees before Him. Would you please join me in praying on your knees for this Summit each day from now until the conference ends at noon on Saturday? As we do this together I am confident that we will all stand in awe on the backside of this event as we recount the ways that He answered our prayers.

Thanks so much for letting me break into your day like this. I feel a greater sense of peace already knowing that you will be upholding us in prayer.

Pastors & Leaders Meet To Dialogue

This Saturday (8/6), Tim Hoekstra will bring the devotion and lead discussion around an interesting and provocative article that was in the editorial section of the Sun Times this week.

For those who are new to this email list, welcome! We extend an invitation for you to join us this Saturday morning at 7am at Austin Corinthian Baptist Church. We will begin our time together with worship, teaching and prayer, followed by discussion of the issues raised in the article Tim will share. If you can stay, we have breakfast together at 8:30 for a donation of $5. Austin Corinthian Baptist Church is located at 823 S. Cicero Ave. just 3 blocks south of the Eisenhower Expressway at the northeast corner of Cicero and Arthington.
